April 10 - The Working Fan's Dream

mlb.comIf you need a little escape from the office grind and you’re in front of your computer, all of the Major League Baseball you could ever want is a click away at www.mlb.com.

Want great play highlights? You don’t have to hope to catch Sportscenter’s Top Ten. You can see all the great plays from each day’s games instantly, and as often as you like, with TV-quality resolution, for free. Statistics? Baseball is made for them. And just about any stat you can think of, from pitching to hitting to defense, is readily available.

Peruse standings, read all the latest on your favorite team, or click on the name of any player and be instantly taken to his bio page where again, you’ll find top video highlights from his career, fantasy statistics and more.

You can subscribe to MLB.com on a monthly or annual basis and watch every game played live from anywhere you can access the Internet. If you happen to miss a game—no problem. You can pull up the full video archive in it’s original format, or watch a handy condensed version as well. And, if you don’t feel like dropping the cash, but still would like to sneak a peek at what’s happening while you’re at work, MLB.com offers what I believe to be its coolest feature, which is Gameday Pitchtracker. The next-best-thing to watching or listening live, Pitchtracker graphically depicts each game as it is happening, pitch-by-pitch, so that you can follow along from the comfort of your cubicle, absolutely free.

There’s so much to see on MLB.com that you might have trouble getting any work done. And clearly, you need that job to be able to afford the Premium Subscription. But if you notice that during the ninth inning of every game your boss hustles back into his office to get in front of the computer, you can bet he’s on MLB.com too.
