December 16, 2008 - Rolling Over the Competition
One of the most satisfying aspects of what we do at Sports Product Review is when we find a company that doesn’t have the volume or brand recognition of the big boys you’ll see on Sunday commercials, but that has the quality and value to blow them away. The folks at GearGuard Sports (www.no-errors.com) do baseball and softball bags like no other. Their line of No E2 and Dinger bags with FAT BOY wheels don’t just look better than any bag you’ll find, they are better.
The first thing you’ll notice is the monster truck tires. Sure, there are other bags equipped with puny in-line skate wheels, but I’d like to see any of them maneuver the journey from the parking lot to the field over rocks, dirt, pavement, hills and grass like the tires on the E2. Yet these wheels do more than simply make this bag ultra-portable. Last Christmas, we got my son a bat bag from one of the companies we’ve all heard of. One year later, after hundreds of drags across the dugout floor, the bottom is ripped so badly he’s had to duct tape it to keep his bats and other gear from falling out. The FAT BOY wheels not only get the bag to the dugout with ease, they keep it up off the ground once it’s there.
And mobility is only part of what makes this the best bat bag we’ve ever seen. My first thought when I opened the box, based on the rugged material and bevy of compartments, was that this thing was going to be heavy. Yet with all its toughness and bells and whistles, it is super-lightweight. And, maybe best of all, GearGuard knows what every player wants in a bag. Not only are the zippers combo-lock-friendly, but they’re the highest quality, which means easy open and close and less chance of ripping, (another issue my son’s bag has experienced). It sports an ergonomically-designed carry handle and the oversized mesh venting keeps gear and the bag from getting musty and mildewed. You’ll also find a sunglass compartment, collapsible snap-on dividers, mesh batting glove pocket, padded bat compartment to protect those three hundred dollar investments, and even a velvet pocket to store personal effects. And when you combine all of these features with the coolest, head-turning look on the market, you’ve got a bag that’s sure to please your favorite ball player and be the envy of the team.
So you can buy them an ordinary bat bag from the same company that makes their cleats, bats and helmets, or you can get them a GearGuard. Once in awhile its good to go off the beaten path. Especially if you’ve got the tires to roll over it.
