December 23, 2008 - Coveted Comfort
Having four kids who play sports, my weekend job is going to soccer tournaments, baseball tournaments and football games. At almost every venue, I’ll walk by a trash can in which someone has stuffed a broken folding chair. We’ve gone through quite a few ourselves. But I can assure you, we’ve never seen a chair from GCI Outdoor (www.gcioutdoor.com) thrown into the rubbish pile.
Like every product GCI Outdoor makes, you’ll feel the Pico Arm Chair was designed with you, specifically, in mind. This is the Captain’s Chair of outdoor chairs. It is not only superior in comfort to all of the cheap imitators, it is easier to transport and has just the right amount of bells and whistles.
The first thing you’ll notice is how compact and lightweight it is. One of the reasons I rarely ever bring a chair to our weekend excursions is that they’re a hassle. They take up a lot of room in the car, getting them in and out of their nylon bags, which always rip, is a pain, and they’re heavy and cumbersome. The Pico is lightweight, but extremely durable. There is no doubt some smart design engineers spent a lot of time on the make-up of this chair. The legs, arms and back all slide together telescopically and fit into a carry bag which is not much larger than an attaché. But in addition to the remarkable ease with which the bag holds the folded chair, it doubles ingeniously as the seat back cover, housing drink holders and storage compartments. When you’re ready to go, it breaks down in a second and is packed away over your shoulder.
When I first opened mine at a soccer tournament, the other parents cooed with envy. “Ooh, fancy!” was what they said through jealous smiles. Yes, it is fancy. One look at my Pico Arm Chair made them all want to stuff their ordinary folding chairs into the trash, even before they broke.
