February 3, 2009 - Attack the Ordinary
When reviewing training devices, we enjoy simplicity, affordability, and ingenuity. Hockey coaches who throw road cones on the ice as obstacles for their skaters certainly adhere to the first two criteria. But when it comes to ingenuity, its hard to beat the Attack Triangle from Transcendent Training Products, (www.ttpsports.com).
The Attack Triangle began when the folks at TTP realized that during drills, most of the players didn't understand the very basic idea of "attacking the triangle,” or, the shape formed by touchpoints to the ice of the opponent's skates and stick.
The interactive Attack Triangle better challenges players by replicating the positioning of an opponents skates and stick. By creating an open lane between the simulated skates and extending stick, the device forces players to develop puck movement skills, stickhandling ability and an understanding of passing lanes. By using the Attack Triangle at home or in place of ordinary cones at practice, players naturally start working on more creative moves. In addition to providing more interaction during practice on ice, it comes equipped with mooring pins which virtually eliminate sliding.
So, next time you pull into the lot outside the rink, no need to look over both shoulders and grab a couple parking cones on your way into practice. The Attack Triangle will teach your skaters how to get through a defender. Your opponents will only know how to get past a hazard in the road.
