May 27 - Non-Friction
There’s a saying in NASCAR that “rubbin’s racing.” But if you’re racing on two wheels (or two feet) instead of four, rubbin’ is the last thing you want. Friction, or rubbing, is a root cause of blisters, chafing, saddle sores, rash, and other forms of skin irritation while riding a bike. Body Glide (www.bodyglide.com) is anti-friction, anti-blister skin formula.
Body Glide and new Foot Glide help guard against friction – and help moisturize skin and protect it against dryness, cracking and chafing. It works in dry, hot, cold, humid, and even wet conditions - and it stands up to wind, fresh and salt water. Year after year, and around, the world, marathon runners, cyclists, triathletes, and adventure racers depend on Body Glide to see them through the toughest competition. The formula combines all natural plant-derived triglycerides (waxes), with aloe and vitamin e – and it’s packaged in a convenient stick. Body Glide is not messy and it does not evaporate - which sets it apart from all the products made with petroleum, mineral oil, lanolin, water or alcohol. It works with surface skin cells to create an invisible barrier. It feels soft, not oily, sticky or wet, it’s invisible, and it doesn’t fly away like a powder. We applied some to tough calloused heels and even felt the difference the rest of the day just walking around.
Apply Foot Glide or Body Glide skin protectant stick directly onto your feet or any part of your body where annoying irritation may occur. If blisters or chafing have ever prevented you from running or riding that extra mile, now you can “glide” through your next race with ease.

Aug 1 - Nor Dark of Night
Cycling after dark is a whole different animal. You can tame that beast with the Double Shot LED from Cateye, (www.cateye.com). The Double Shot combines 2 high-powered LEDs with opticube lens. It has a runtime of more than 5 hours, and charges in 3 hours, using the included smart charger. With both helmet and bicycle mounts, it is extremely versatile. The tough aluminum construction makes it virtually indestructible.
Once you try the Double Shot, you may never go back to day riding again. Well, that may be a reach. But don’t be surprised if you start to worry less about what time it is and whether or not you can get your ride in before sundown.

July 31 - Tooling Around
Going somewhere on two wheels? Not without your Topeak Aero Survival Tool Wedge, you’re not. (www.topeak.com)
Inside you’ll find a folding screwdriver/hex set, 2 tire levers, a patch kit, chain tool and 2 box wrenches with a spoke wrench. Bottom straps with pump peg allow you to secure your pump from falling out. The wedge is designed for fast and easy removal from seat rails, sports a reflective accent on the back as well as a rear taillight holder.
No more need to ride with caution. You can let it all hang out. If your bike lets you down you can fix whatever’s ailing it in a jiffy and be back up and riding in no time.

July 20 - Riding High
If you like to go to remote locations to ride your bike, you need to go to Yakima. Not the city in Washington, (though there may be some fine trails there), but Yakima Products, (www.yakima.com).
We were nervous when the Highroller arrived, thinking it would be harder to put together than the bike itself on Christmas Eve. Open it up and much to our delight, one page of mounting instructions and a small plastic pouch of hardware. Otherwise it was fully-assembled and ready to go.
And beyond ease-of-assembly, was ease-of-use. This thing works like a charm. It's designed to ensure that there's no need to worry about scratches on your car or bike. One easy-to-reach knob controls retention, adjustment and release, and the super strong and wide wheel tray can hold anything you can straddle. Thanks to Yakima, the days of trying to stuff your bike somewhere it doesn't belong, or removing your front wheel, are over.
So now there’s no excuse not to get out there and ride. The look of pure envy on my bike-riding neighbor’s face as I mounted the Highroller on my roof said it all.

July 2 - Tracked from Space
If you’d like to bring a little Star Trek to your outdoor activities, Navman (www.navman.com) is extending its line-up of satellite-based personal trainers with Sport.Tool X300. The sleek, attractive and futuristic device tells you at a glance how fast you’re moving and how far you’ve come, with global positioning systems (GPS) accuracy. It is made for those who enjoy a wide variety of sports, such as skiing, running, rollerblading or cycling.
The X300 is a math whiz. It pings satellites thousands of miles away, and calculates how far it is from each. It does this by multiplying the time it took for each signal to reach the receiver by the speed of light. Once it has done this for each of the satellites it has found, it typically establishes your position to an accuracy of within just fifteen yards.
The X300 will provide you with distance traveled, cumulative altitude, speed, lap distance, lap time and much more. It boasts a fabric strap for fitting comfortably on to the upper arm, while an easy-to-read personal display gives the user performance statistics at a glance. It even comes in optional colored covers, including black, blue, green and white. Captain Kirk would be jealous.
